Thank you for getting in touch and considering The Mary Bassett Lower School as the start of your child’s school journey. I believe it is most important for parents and carers to make a sound decision about a school place for their child and this requires preparation towards identifying your preferred school(s).
I am in my sixth year of being Headteacher at the school, and I am incredibly proud of the work governors and staff have done to make school an authentic representation of our vision. We value the opportunity to support young children to embark on an exciting journey of learning, which will positively impact their educational journey, including most importantly their sense of identity and long-term fulfilment.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS: You will be very aware schools are currently having to adhere to strict protocols to ensure the safe education of children presently in school; this means I cannot invite you in during the school day in order for you to see what our ethos looks like in practice. I would however like to invite you to meet with me after the children have finished school at the end of the day if this would help you make a decision about a school choice.
GETTING A FEEL FOR WHAT WE DO: I would encourage you to spend some time looking at our school Website as a starting point. In preparation for our current Reception children starting school we collated a wide range of resources, which I think will also be helpful to you. These can be found here: https://www.marybassett.co.uk/starting-school-2020/
BOOKING A MEETING / SITE TOUR / TELEPHONE CHAT: Although we will not be able to visit everywhere in the school, a site tour will provide you with some understanding about how we make use of our special environments for learning and play. Having the opportunity to meet with me or talk on the telephone will also provide you with an opportunity to ask any specific questions you may have.
Please follow the link to indicate your availability for a meeting, tour or chat if you would find this type of opportunity helpful. Please be aware there will still be control measures in place for on-site visits and these are explained in the Availability Form:
ADMISSIONS IN 2021: Central Bedfordshire is our admissions authority and all applications for our school are managed by their Admissions Team. They have produced a comprehensive booklet, which will answer questions about the process of applying for a school place in 2021. You can view this here: https://centralbedfordshire.app.box.com/s/52o1q05f86vhf4i1nf59qeg4b1y6mv4w
If there is anything else I can do, please just ask. You can contact me via the Front Desk (01525) 373017 or email@example.com
The circumstances are not ideal but life will continue and your child still deserves a school placement, which you are delighted with!
