Children at Mary Bassett School use their observational skills to look at the world around them in greater detail and to see the beauty in everyday objects. They are supported to consider their place in the world and their impact on it, particularly when creating products with a purpose. Children acquire a broad range of subject knowledge whilst drawing from other disciplines such as science, engineering, mathematics and computing. They design, plan and create prototypes by applying a range of design and technology skills before evaluating their work with a view to making improvements to their designs. Many of the skills developed in the study of design technology translate to the wider curriculum and experiences in later life.
Curriculum learning for each year group in Design and Technology lessons is outlined below. The progression of children's skills and knowledge in Design and Technology is outlined in the MBLS Learning Scale. If you have any queries regarding how any aspect of Design and Technology is taught in your child’s year group then please contact their class teacher in the first instance.
Design and Technology teaching at The Mary Bassett Lower School is coordinated by Ms Tiwari.
