At Mary Bassett School, the children develop their skills to become historians that are inquisitive, investigative and observant about events, people and ways of living in the past. They develop their knowledge of dates and timelines to show when events happened. Teaching and learning experiences are planned for the children to learn about, question and in some cases experience how things were done in the past. They research using tablets, computers and books to develop their knowledge of a period or person and present their information in the form of models, books, art, posters and videos. They are encouraged to notice patterns in history, lessons that can be learned and the legacy of the past on their lives today.
Curriculum coverage for each year group in history lessons is outlined below. The progression of children's skills and knowledge in history is outlined in the MBLS Learning Scale. If you have any queries regarding how any aspect of history is taught in your child’s year group then please contact their class teacher in the first instance.
History teaching at The Mary Bassett Lower School is coordinated by Mrs Collins-Pratt.
