Welcome to The Mary Bassett Lower School

I am very proud to introduce myself to you as Headteacher of The Mary Bassett Lower School. I have been at the school since January 2022. This is a welcoming and warm school and I feel privileged to be part of the team here.

Our school is named after Mary Bassett who dedicated much of her life to improving the lives of others. The school acknowledges the influence of 'Service to Others' as a contributing factor to its unique nature. The school has a long history in the town and has seen many changes. The school benefits from its central location within the town and generous site layout, providing us with many special outdoor spaces. 

The Mary Bassett Lower School is a fully inclusive school, and we are all proud to follow ‘The Mary Bassett Way’. Our school is welcoming and happy, and we all aim to be the best we can be whilst helping each other to achieve great things. Children make positive behaviour choices and enjoy a creative curriculum with real life opportunities provided to enhance their learning experience. 

We are lucky to have a beautiful site with many opportunities for outdoor learning throughout all year groups. We have high expectations for our children but, at the same time, we provide a calm and caring environment where all children are nurtured and supported.

I encourage an ‘open door’ policy for all. If you would like to speak to me, please see me at the main school gate every morning, or please come to the School Office and ask to speak to me. On the rare occasion I am not available, the School Office will arrange a convenient time for us to meet or speak on the phone. Class teachers are also available for you to talk to, there is often more time to speak to teachers at the end of the school day. Alternatively, you can email the School Office if you have any questions or concerns.

We welcome prospective parents and carers to come and look around the school (by appointment only). If you want to take advantage of this opportunity, please contact our School Office, and they will assist booking you in for a tour with a Senior Leader.
