Our topic this half term is 'Noah's Ark'. We will start with singing the fabulous 'two by two' song and listening to the text being read whilst using this to inspire designing our own animals! We will then be sharing the beautiful text 'The Storm Whale' by Benji Davies and using this to inspire our lessons across the curriculum. If you would like to share this book with your child, please can we ask that you wait until the week beginning the 21st of January to support the gradual reveal of the text.
In Geography, we will be finding out about extreme weather including storms and floods. We will learn about the homes that people build around the world to withstand different climates and will use this information to design our own flood resistant houses.
In Art, we will be conducting an artist study on JMW Turner, considered to be one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape paintings. The children will be given the opportunity to paint using both watercolour and acrylic paint where they will consider their differences and choose their preferred medium. Towards the end of the half term, we will take our art lessons outside and create a series of storm pictures using charcoal.
Science begins with considering the wildlife around us before being introduced to the different types of animals and their characteristics.
Maths will focus on addition and subtraction within 20 using different concrete objects, pictorial representations and number sentences. This will include finding all the number bonds to 20 and their related facts.
