Year 1 Planet Ice Trip, Tuesday 10th December 2019
Incident on the coach
Dear Parents & Carers,
During the Yr1 trip today there was an incident with the coach. For clarity I wanted to explain that the top-left corner of the upstairs window on their double-decker coach made contact with a loose tree branch in Heath & Reach on their way to Planet Ice. This resulted in the toughened glass being punctured, with further cracking across the pane. The coach was stopped and the children waited safely for alternative vehicles to arrive to enable them to continue their journey. No one was harmed.
We have clear procedures to follow in regard to every trip and visit that is planned and this ensures children's safety is the first priority. In this circumstance the quick thinking of staff and a prompt response from the travel company resulted in a very successful trip. By the time the coach returned back to Leighton Buzzard the whole tree in question had fallen onto the road and there were police supporting road-users to pass safely.
Hopefully this will put your mind at rest if all you had received was a brief story indicating a crash, smashed glass, coach-swapping and police!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
